Cabana Bay: A Great Value for Families at Universal Orlando

Let me start by saying, the resort itself is cool and fun!

As you drive up to the main lobby, you are transported back in time to the days of family trips loading up the ol’station wagon and headed to the beach! In those days, roadside motels were plenty. As soon as you step on property, you are emerged into the era of 1950’s and 1960’s. You will see old cars from those eras placed alongside the main entrance. Upon entering the lobby, the mid-century design excites with the bold colors of blue and orange displayed in the furniture and furnishings. What’s that I hear? The sweet sounds of Motown and classic songs from long ago. The buildings around the property are appropriately named after some of the famous roadside hotels of the past like Thunderbird, Starlight, and Castaway. Surely, you will be ready for a “Blast from the past” style vacation!

Wow-za the Extras!
There are many amenities at this Resort. Guests can bowl at Galaxy Bowling (a 10-lane bowling alley) or head over to Game-o-Rama arcade for some more family fun! Hungry? No Worries! Bay liner Diner is a 5-fresh station food court serving pizza, burgers, and more. Enjoy watching commercial clips of the 1950’s and 60’s while you dine! There are also quick grab and go offerings for those who want to have a quick bite before heading out to the parks in the am. For coffee lovers, there is a large Starbucks to suit your early morning cravings before heading to the parks! A must do for my vacations! Like to work out? Here you can exercise with legend Jack LaLanne’s (the pioneer in the exercise industry!)  inspirational videos. No resort stay is complete without some pool time. Cabana Bay has one of the largest pools on property with a fun water slide and lazy river making it a great place to “cool-out” with your family. I love that the chairs are all placed on sandy beaches. Pavement can be really hard on your feet on those hot days getting back and forth to the pool so this nice touch alleviates that problem and is a nice touch to make you feel like you are at the beach!

Sleep Glorious Sleep!
There are many great room offerings. Some offer outstanding views of Volcano Bay located in the new towers. On our visit, we stayed in a Family Suite. Family Suites accommodate up to six guests. Rooms have 2 TV’s, 2 queen beds, pull out sofa, kitchenette, and bathroom concept with 2 sinks to make getting ready easy. We could use the mini fridge to store waters, leftovers, and breakfast for the am. There is also a microwave to heat up food which is a great way to save a few dollars! There is a sliding door that provides a bit of privacy diving the kitchen area from the sleeping. On our stay, we had 4 girls with a lot of luggage and still found we had plenty of room to get ready. I found the beds to be very comfortable too. Also, it is worth noting that there were plenty of outlets to recharge our phones.

Tips around this resort:
After checking in, you can print your park tickets right in the main lobby of the hotel. The kiosks are located outside of the gift shop. Speaking of parks, you have early park admission and complimentary bus transportation when you stay at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel. This location does not include complimentary Express passes. So, be sure your tickets include those with your stay if you don’t want to wait in the regular line!

There is not a bell hop service at this location. However, you can check your luggage until your room is ready. There are luggage racks available for use to ease with the transportation of your luggage.

Remember to take your room key with you if headed to the parks or around the resort. I found a lanyard with a card holder helpful. If you do not have your key you may find that you cannot get from one part of the resort to the next. The gates have locking mechanisms. We were in the Thunderbird building and had to use the key to access the gates while navigating around the pool.

Also, did you know at this location that you are steps away from Volcano Bay? If visiting, you can bring a resort towel with you just be sure to return them!
